Royal BAM Group has agreed to acquire Dutch underground infrastructure specialist A.Hak in a €504 million deal, strengthening its energy and water infrastructure capabilities across the Netherlands and the UK.

The acquisition will bring A.Hak’s expertise in transmission pipelines, underground networks and trenchless construction techniques into BAM’s existing infrastructure operations.

A.Hak employs approximately 900 people and expects revenues of €425 million in 2026. Its order backlog for 2027-2031 stands at €1 billion, supported by long-term agreements with utility providers and network operators.

Expanding specialist infrastructure capability

The combined business will strengthen BAM’s ability to deliver integrated energy transmission, distribution and water infrastructure projects.

A.Hak operates primarily in the Netherlands, which accounts for approximately 85% of its revenue, alongside activities in the UK and Belgium.

BAM also sees opportunities to expand A.Hak’s specialist services in the UK, where investment in energy networks and water infrastructure is increasing.

Supporting long-term infrastructure investment

Dutch electricity and gas network operators are planning €235 billion of investment between 2026 and 2040, creating substantial demand for specialist underground infrastructure.

Following completion, A.Hak will retain its existing name, leadership and operational independence.

The acquisition is expected to increase BAM’s exposure to the energy transition market to more than 20% of Group revenues.

Completion is anticipated in the first quarter of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
