Medway NHS Foundation Trust has introduced a centralised digital fire risk management system, developed by BIS Consult, to improve risk visibility, regulatory compliance and investment planning across Medway Maritime Hospital.

The Trust, which serves more than 427,000 people across Medway and Swale, is replacing fragmented fire safety records with a structured digital approach that consolidates risk assessment data from multiple sources.

Turning data into actionable insight

Interactive dashboards allow the Trust’s Fire Safety Group to identify outstanding actions, recurring risks and investment priorities across the hospital estate.

The system has already demonstrated potential cost efficiencies, with analysis revealing that an estate-wide approach to cabling issues could be more economical than individual repairs.

Jason Brittin, Capital Projects/Programme Manager at the Trust, said:

“The BIS Consult solution has demonstrated how we can transform the way we manage fire safety information across our hospital estate. The improved visibility of risk will help our fire safety and estates teams prioritise action, support regulatory compliance and make more efficient investment decisions.”

Supporting compliance and building safety

The platform supports NHS fire safety guidance HTM 05-03 and HTM 05-01, alongside the ‘Golden thread’ principle of maintaining accurate, accessible building safety information throughout an asset’s lifecycle.

BIS Consult has previously developed similar risk management systems for Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and Airedale General Hospital, addressing asset condition, asbestos and RAAC.

The approach could also be extended to other estate management priorities, including water safety and structural condition.
