Anglian Water has selected two joint ventures for its new £1.5bn Major Projects Framework, which will oversee the delivery of some of the utility’s largest water and wastewater schemes during AMP8 and beyond.
The successful partnerships are Ferrovial Construction and MWH Treatment, and VolkerFitzpatrick and VolkerStevin Infrastructure. Both have secured places on the framework, which represents a significant change in Anglian Water’s approach to delivering major capital projects.
The utility is moving away from its traditional multi-contractor alliance model in favour of a delivery structure built around two integrated Tier 1 partners capable of scaling up project delivery as regulatory and environmental demands increase. The new framework will operate alongside Anglian Water’s existing Strategic Pipeline Alliance, @one and Integrated Operational Solutions alliances.
Initially running for five years, with the option to extend to 2036, the framework will see both joint ventures provide end-to-end services including early contractor involvement, design, construction, commissioning and supply chain management.
One of the first programmes to be delivered through the framework is the £450m Coastal Waters Improvement programme, comprising around 10 packages valued between £15m and £80m and covering more than 55 individual schemes. Works will include civil engineering, new process technology and additional storage infrastructure aimed at addressing storm overflows, sea-level challenges and population growth pressures.
Early projects in the pipeline include approximately £100m of investment at Southend, £70m at Great Yarmouth, £70m at King’s Lynn and £30m at Boston. Contracts are expected to be formally signed following the standstill period ending on 27 August.
