Balfour Beatty plans to grow its UK workforce from around 14,000 to 16,000 by the end of 2027, increasing capacity as it prepares for the Government’s £750bn infrastructure pipeline.
Workforce capacity set to grow
The contractor expects its UK workforce to have increased by more than 30% in four years, rising from 12,000 employees at the end of 2023 to a projected 16,000 by the end of 2027.
Chief Executive Philip Hoare said:
“Britain’s infrastructure ambitions will only be realised if the country has the capacity, capability and skills to deliver them.
“Expanding our workforce by 2,000 is a clear vote of confidence in the market. It shows the scale of opportunity ahead and our commitment to investing in the people, projects and technical expertise that will power Britain’s future.”
Early-career routes to deliver half of new roles
Around 1,000 of the additional positions are expected to be filled through apprenticeships, graduate programmes, internships and trainee roles. Early-career talent already represents approximately 9% of Balfour Beatty’s UK workforce.
The company currently employs around 26,000 people worldwide across the UK, US and its Gammon business in Hong Kong.
